Additional notes 07/19/25 (2008 pictured)

Well I did say in the original notes that might be, “A good candidate for the cellar I would think”, so here we are. Found these two on the final clear out of what once was a 1000+ bottle cellar, and given that the Brewery has recently ceased to be I guess it was time!

2008: Pour actually quite good. Color isn’t awful and even a little carbonation. Big sherry, caramel nose. Some bitter, dark chocolate and frankly not too much oxidation. Some serious dry tannins, a bit tea-like and some vinous, drying red wine notes. Increasingly bitter. I mean I could drink a couple of ounces for old-times sake, but that’s about it.

2009: Labeled “FEB 09” by me. This poured a little creamier in terms of the head and drank a little sweeter, but certainly reminiscent of the 2008 in terms of caramel and sherry. There seemed to be a lot more alcohol taste in terms of warming content here.

Original notes 02/23/08

Finally caught up with this on its recent arrival in GA in the last couple of weeks. 12 oz single from a six-pack from Mac’s midtown, $11.99.

Beautiful looking beer when poured correctly and into the correct glassware. The color is a deep red garnet color with a great clarity, a lovely billowing head and some decent lace. VERY nice color, and I love the clarity.

Interesting because I think this seems to straddle the Enlish/American styles of BW. A sticky, syrup like consistency but the sweetness holds off until the aftertaste for me. However, if you spill this you’ll see how sugar there is in this brew! A bit more hop bitterness than I was expecting. Alcohol, while certainly present is not near the 11.00%

A good candidate for the cellar I would think.

One in a sitting is enough for me.
