Dogfish Head
American Beauty

I know nothing about The Dead, so Granola references are a bit lost on me.

Pour is an amazingly pretty, deep golden color with a tremendous white head that has very good retention.

It’s quite sweet up front. A definite honey and light viscosity hits the palate at first. The viscosity makes for quite a rich mouthfeel. The 9% ABV is definitely ‘there’, but it doesn’t overwhelm things early.

Not a grab deal of hop character here, but there is a bit of a Saaz-like Noble bitterness all the way in the back end. It reminds me a bit of a cross between an amped up pilsner (An ‘Imperial’ Pilsner), and something a tad more malty. Plenty of malts are maintained as it goes more into high ABV American Pale Ale country.

Sweetness persists really late in the beer, and the light viscosity is definitely a feature. The granola certainly adds a noticeable character – not one that say ‘granola’ as such – but not bad.

As is often the case with DFH, interesting but expensive and probably a one-off for me.
