Part of a four pack that I randomly came across at a Liquor Barn in Kentucky recently.
Pour is a mid-orange, classically clouded look. Lovely head, great retention.
Nose and initial tastes have plenty of candy sweetness. It goes beyond a standard malt, and into a sweeter territory. beautifully soft in the mouth, the beer breaks over the tongue with a ton of delicate, but really, really full flavor.
There’s a lot going on here. Some alcohol, a bright, understated sweet Tripel element, all held together with a sweet malt backbone which is the essence of this beer. Carbonation is high, and it produces some satisfying burps.
Some bitterness in the back end, and that’s where the citrus (orange) element can be found, but again this is delicate.
This really is a lovely beer. It’s doesn’t feel quintessentially ‘Belgian’ per se, but it delivers on flavor in a big way.
