Tasted directly alongside the base beer for comparison.
12oz bottle, from Tavour, bottled 03/29/21.
Pour is largely indistinguishable from the original. Perhaps oddly, the ABV comes in at 6.8 as opposed to the 5.5 of the base beer. The added Raspberry Purée gives that much more fermentable sugar? I guess.
Equally oddly, no significant raspberry on the nose.
Tastes are also relatively muted after the initial assault. It’s obviously raspberry up front, but as the base beer builds a lot of that can just goes away. Near the end of the 12 oz I wonder if I could tell the difference. Subtle is good, but it’s close to MIA in the final 1/4 of the bottle.
Mouthfeel is smooth – but so is the original – drinkability is good – but so is the original, so I don’t really get the angle here.
I mean, it’s fine I suppose, but why are you messing around with Black Butte. I suppose marketing? An angle which while not lost on me entirely, I have close to zero interest in.
I’m not big on fruit beer, but this isn’t why I don’t much care for this, it’s more in the category of why are you messing around with a classic at all? Ho hum …
