Bengali Tiger
3.73 out of 5.00 | Good

Had this a couple of weeks ago at The Capital Ale House in Richmond, VA and when I opened that can there was an overwhelming smell of burning rubber – really overwhelming, and truly odd. So this time I was expecting something similar, but happily that didn’t come. 16 oz can from The Foodery (North) in Philadelphia, PA.

Tweeting about 'burning rubber'

For an American IPA, the nose on the beer is surprisingly sweet with some fruit. Not much evidence of the citrus and pine mentioned on the can.

An unusual beast in as much as it is an American IPA with a decent balance. Lots of solid malts upfront which offer a typical, bready backbone on which to hang some American hop character. Relatively soft hops kiss the tongue, and manifest a very, very bitterness in the back end. In fact, the strange thing is that the greatest part of the grapefruit, resin bitterness actually occurs in the aftertaste rather than any initial hops.

For the style its a beer that is surprisingly easy, light drinking with only a hint of alcohol. No heavy elements here.

62 IBU, 13 SRM.
