1841 Viennese Lager

Another relic from the recent Hilton Head trip. I’ve had this maybe once before, also purchased in HHI. A quick check on @untappd confirms that it was 11 months ago.

12oz can, popular on the island because fot he beach,

Pour is a fairly cloudy affair with some shady looking desity. Even a few floaties that I was not expecting. Head is initially high, but fades badly. Thin, non-descript collar.

Nose offers a yeasty, bready mix.

Frankly this tastes a little oxidized, a little ‘old’. There’s a light acidity about the beer with some strange tartness that I wasn’t expecting.

I would normally expect a Vienna lager to exhibit some more body and be a little more substantial in the malt department, this is not especially sweet, nor does it have that classic, buttered toast element that the better beers have. It’s all a tad confusing.

Nice to drink a beer at 4%, this is something that I would very much like to revisit when fresh, and closer to the source. I suspect that it might be a beer that I would like a lot more than this particular can suggests.
