Bavik
Super Pils

Pour is a slightly clouded, golden body with excellent head. Retention and lace are great.

A little bit of a skunky nose if I am honest, it doesn’t seems especially clean. Not awful, but not quite what I had expected. It is a harbinger of things to come.

It’s sweeter than I would like, and when you have any type of pils, German or Czech, that tends to take the edge off things a little. Oddly for the style, it lacks a bitter, Noble hop backbone and is somewhat bizarrely rather fruity. There’s some muted yeast character there too, but it’s light. Lots of malt base and it’s OK, but it’s hard to be characterizing this a Pils of any description for me. Belgians make stunning beer, but they should be leaving this style to the experts in the old Czechoslovakia and Germany.

The beer is quite sweet and drinkable, but in terms of any type of pilsner this really doesn’t’ work very well. It’s a Belgian Pale or Simple, but without a lot of Belgian yeast up front.
