Bavarian
Pils
4.73 out of 5.00 | Excellent

This really is a unique beer.

It’s very significantly different than many other pilsners. There is a hazed, light, lemon yellow pour with a large rocky head that gives good lace with decent retention.

The beer is soft, sweeter than many in the style, and quite fluffy and round. There is a bit of a Noble hop finish that brings the bitter finish that one would expect, but it never bites hard like some (most) German pilsners. Under other circumstances I might see this as an undesirable flaw, but the beer is so insanely drinkable, so sweet and soft, that I am happy to let it slide, The sweet, grainy nature of the beer is its true trademark, and it delivers in every gulp. The beer is insanely drinkable, and is so much more than the sum of its parts.

This isn’t a “crisp” or a “clean” beer by any stretch of the imagination, and again that would seem like a serious knock on the beer given the style, however, for some unknown reason the beer still comes together beautifully and is truly outstanding. Skillful brewing I guess.

This is a long way from being a typical German Pils, and when that happens I.often worry and lose interest, but this is one of those beers that truly stands on its own and still works. There aren’t that many beers that do that in the world, and even fewer for me. In that regard a truly remarkable beer,
