Baudelaire Biere iO Saison

First Jolly Pumpkin beer in what feels like forever.

Jolly Pumpkin has always induced a love hate relationship, and I’ve gravitated away from them over the years. However, this caught my eye as perhaps something that they could pull off and do well.

Strange colored pour that threatens to be pink, but ends up being a sort of turbid, dubbel, raspberry brown affair. Odd

The nose perhaps offers more funk and tartness than the beer delivers, which on the whole I find a good thing. There’s quite a lot of fruit sweetness meshed into the tart lace, and for me this beer drinks nothing like a saison, and much more like a vinegary, American Wild Ale. A few Flanders Red notes are definitely there, but the Sasion element is for me, mostly missing. If I’m honest I didn’t hate it, but equally I infinitely prefer a brett infused REAL saison. This isn’t that.

A little floral element from the hibiscus and rose elements, but its pretty well controlled. In thend this is weird, and not something I’m in love with but it isn’t awful either.

01/08/2016 which is likely a bottled on date I guess.
