Not a classic Helles perhaps, although that’s a matter for debate of course, but given it’s a Bavarian beer, then maybe it can’t be anything but a classic in the style.
Pour offers a lovely color, but a touch of chill-haze on the body. The taste are good, but not as clean as some Helles can be. I know a Helles is not necessarily, a dry, astringent pils with big Saaz bite, but this one is really quite malty. Noticeably so. I’d even give a nod to the fact that it feels a little Märzen like.
Drinks easily, and fills it’s role nicely and I enjoyed it, and we can argue all day about what makes a classic/the best Helles, but there is no doubt we are on the maltier end of the spectrum – which is fine.
Seeking a drier, mare (literally) ‘Sassy’ pils, then this is not the beer. Happy to indulge the malt end of the Helles continuim then yes, this is the beer.
