Jungle Jim’s, Cincinnati, June 2021.
A classic. Light golden, sparkling body with utter clarity. Great, wispy, massive head, but because of the wispy nature it collapses quite quickly. I wonder if the head is different on draft?
Nose and tastes give the requisite bread and maltiness. There’s a sweetness about the beer (and indeed the style), that I have to be in the mood for, and occasionally touches on an adjunct, euro lager cloying nature. It never really gets there, but there’s a fine line. Again, I would like to compare a really fresh, draft version. It’s light (as per style), and sweet, and hides even the 4.5% quite nicely.
Not a style I love, but it’s always comforting to get the real McCoy.
500 mL bottle, L0191.
