Ameriken
Pis

33cl bottle. Recently shipped in from Belgium.

A complex collaboration between La Senne and Perennial, Yazoo, Little Animals, Keeping Together, Off Color and Somewhere Else Beer Project.

Beautiful, deep orange golden color. Medium head, that has a bone-white color with tremendous lace. Light stickiness to it.

Plenty of sweet hops on the nose. It immediately reminds me of an old style, DIPA from the West Coast (please note I’m not using the horrible, dumb term ‘WCIPA’).

Perfect balance in the tastes. Some gentle but stinging bitterness in the back end, but coupled with some really strong Belgian candy notes up front. The hop and candy combo really nail the style perfectly.

It drinks every bit of the 7.5%, but at the same time is subtle. There’s a lot of sweetish fruit here, with mostly orange marmalade to the fore. The pit and peel get in there via the hop bitterness too. Very smooth with a silky, tiny bubbled carbonation.

Great, complex beer that drinks more simply than it might, but also is instantly a fine, quintessential example of the style. Delicious.
