This is a pretty interesting beer.
It starts with the appearance which is a lot darker than one might expect, and when viewed in better light gives a tremendous, gold colored appearance. Head lace and retention are all above average if not spectacular.
Tastes have significant depth. At first that seems a bit rough around the edges with some malt liquor elements. This gives way to a more bitter, hoppy notes, finally finishing with some lovely, deep maltiness which is sweet and very full. Seems a little creamy in the back-end, and in the aftertastes, and offers something akin to vanilla in the far finish.
It feels like a bigger beer than it is in the mouth, and not because of the alcohol.
It’s a bit of a mixed bag. Not at all what I would necessarily associate with a Belgian Blonde, and frankly the whole package doesn’t feel especially Belgian in any respect. It’s got a bunch of different flavor profiles which would on the face of it seem a bit muddled, and that would not work well, but somehow it comes together. It’s a conundrum alright.
An odd beer for sure that I both wouldn’t necessarily recommend, but also oddly might suggest that you try just to see what you think! I know that makes little sense, but neither does Floreffe Blonde!
