Corked and caged, the latest Anniversary beer from Sweetwater. 18 was a let down, let’s see what we have here.
Surprising beer all in all.
Golden, dark pour with some decent head and lace but the retention is poor.
MUCH more Saison like than I was expecting, with significant funk and horse blanket about the beer. I was expecting something more red-wine vinous given the Merlot and Cabernet barrel note on the table, bit it came out more on the white wine side of things with a decent dose of funk. the Brett comes through quite well
Apparently blended with a Belgian IPA – WHY oh WHY? – it lends a bitter, dry character to the beer which for me significantly DETRACTS from the experience. I wanted a spritzer, sweeter feel and the IPA note seems to drag things down for me.
Happy with the funk, I wanted something a little less dry. Missed opportunity IMO.
