Sweetwater 16th Anniversary So Fine Red Wheat Wine Ale
3.50 out of 5.00 | Good

A wheatwine. Most in the style that I have had have been enjoyable in small measures, so this will be interesting. Quite what a ‘Red’ wheatwine is I have no idea, but Sweetwater has a tendency for the non-sensical in some of their marketing (alongside the juvenile), so I pay it little attention. The usual guff on the back label.

11% ABV – oh what I would give for a 4% Anniversary or special beer. Why ALL alcohol, ALL the time?

Anyway A mid brown/reddish hue, that gives a somewhat light looking pour with a very thin film of lace. A small collar persists.

Very fruity nose, especially as it warms. Some bubble gum notes up front. Some bitterness. It’s not too sweet, I was expecting some more sugar residuals.

The alcohol is definitely ‘there’, but it is laced with plenty of estery phenols so it never becomes too big in the taste, even though it certainly begins to have an effect.
